The schooled children need parental help: let us mobilize ourselves for them.
So how can you control the work of your children at school and how to manage in order to assist them in the assimilation of their lessons and in the accomplishment of their homework?
It goes without saying that homework should deal with work your child is doing at school. It doesn’t always have to be written down especially for the youngest.
For older children, homework might also include preparing an expose, a team work, finding out information, doing some manual work, as well as more usual written work.
Your relations with the establishment.
Program regular visits in his/her school and agree on the programming of dates with the teachers to know his/her behaviour and his/her attitudes towards his professor his/her mates.
Agree on the mode of communication with the professors by exchanging with them the numbers of telephones and email addresses so that they get in touch with you at the slightest significant problem.
Be a member of the parents’ association by paying your contribution and attend its meetings regularly. It will allow you to participate to decision making likely to improve the conditions of your sent to school children: the competences of the teachers, the pedagogical methods, the didactic means, and finally the quality of meals served at the canteen (if it’s the case for you), the heating in classes, etc.
Your relations with your child.
The first thing to know is the timetable of your child, the names of his/her teachers for each of the taught subjects. It is recommended to type it, get a hard copy or a file in your PC.
It will allow you to follow his/her timetable. You will be able to help him/her not to be late when going to school and at what time he/she’ll be back home.
Once at home, your child has the right to a well deserved rest, to a snack and a period of time (that you will define) to play.
After game, before your child begins making his/her assignments, prove that he/she has understood and assimilated his/her lessons.
Your role is very important at the time when your child rereads lessons which he learnt the day. All new concepts must sometimes be clarified and whole sentences have to be explained; the methods of approach of maths, physics exercises are sometimes hard to be assimilated, and there your help is more than necessary to help your child to understand and to apply. You are the best teacher of your child because you are entirely available to him contrary to his professor.
Make sure your child does not go to the bed without having reviewed all the lessons he/she learnt to day at school, that he/she has made all his/her exercises. Teach him/her to prepare and to put in his/her satchel the needed copybooks, books and other furniture for the following day at school.
Help him/her to prepare the clothes which he/she’ll is expected to wear the following day starting with the apron.
Remind him/her not to forget to brush his/her teeth before going to bed.
